Whether it be rain or shine, winter or summer, a plastic or foam mascot head, there’s no denying that it gets hot inside of a mascot costume. After a crowd-wowing performance, your mascot performer is likely to be hot, tired, and sweaty. Mascot head ventilation and mascot costume temperatures can be difficult to maintain without the proper mascot cooling system accessories. However, it’s not impossible to cool down your mascot.
Are you looking for ways to keep your mascot performer cool? Are you wondering if mascot cooling accessories, like mascot fans and cooling kits, are worth purchasing? Do you want to increase your performer’s energy?
Well, stop sweating- the job of being a mascot performer just got cooler with these five tips.

One way to keep your mascot performer cool is to utilize a mascot cooling system. A mascot cooling system provides ventilation and regulates costume temperatures. Mascot cooling system cold kits cost $195 on average. Cold kits provide a low-cost way to cool down your mascot performer. A cold kit includes the following mascot cooling accessories:
A mascot cooling vest is worn underneath a mascot costume and is designed to manage a mascot performer’s core body temperature. Prior to a performance, freeze the vest’s ice panels, and then easily slide them into the vest’s compartments to provide an instant cool factor for your mascot performer.
A cold collar is worn around a mascot performer’s neck and includes insertable ice panels. It can be worn at the same time as an ice vest for an extra chill factor.
With a mascot cold kit, you can always be ready for the next performance. Extra ice packs are included, along with an insulated carrying bag to hold all of your mascot cold kit cooling accessories.

Mascot performers can have fans outside and inside of a custom mascot costume. A mascot head fan is a small device that enhances costume ventilation by pushing stale air out of the costume while drawing in fresh air from outside. The increased air circulation from a mascot fan makes it much easier for your performer to breathe in a custom mascot costume. On average, mascot fans cost $200.

In addition to mascot cooling accessories, mascot performers can decrease costume temperatures by wearing the right clothing under a mascot costume.
As a mascot performer, it is best to wear light clothing. Underneath a mascot costume it is best to wear shorts and a t-shirt that are made with a wicking fabric. Wicking fabric underneath a mascot costume helps draw moisture away from the performer’s skin.
When mascot performers sweat inside of a mascot costume, their sweat can run into their eyes. By wearing a sweat band underneath a mascot costume, mascot performers will not have to wipe their brows. If sweat is running into your eyes, it can be difficult to see. In addition to cooling, wearing a sweat band can improve vision for performers.

To keep cool during a mascot job, performers should avoid eating anything heavy or greasy before a performance. Heavy and greasy foods can drain a mascot performer’s energy. Performers should increase their salt intake to retain water before a performance. Proper hydration is also important. To stay cool, mascot character performers should drink plenty of fluids before, during, and after a performance. The best drinks for mascot performers are water, Gatorade, or juice.

Freeze! Mascot performers are advised to take breaks in order to stay cool during hot performances. It is good to plan for 30 minutes in costume and 30 minutes out. If you are between performances and are unable to change completely, it is recommended to at least get your head out of the costume to disperse heat. Mascot performers should try to pace themselves so they do not burn out while in character. Freezing and taking a break allows mascot performers time to chill and cool down.

It’s cool to be cool! By keeping your mascot performer cool with cooling accessories like mascot cold kits and mascot head fans, as well as with frequent breaks and proper clothing and nutrition, you are ensuring a stellar performance. Your performer will be able to stay in mascot character longer and will be representing your brand to the best of their ability with a mascot cooling system.
